A Night With ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’: Inside Our First Book Club Interview Watch Party

Last week, Service95 hosted our inaugural Book Club Watch Party, in celebration of Dua’s Monthly Read For November – a book that truly needs no introduction: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

Before we dive into the night itself, let’s take it back to mid-October, when Dua and Margaret connected virtually to discuss a novel that has shaped conversations for decades – a story that continues to inspire passion in readers and a plethora of adaptations over four decades and around the world, including TV, film, opera and ballet .

Margaret has a reputation for “eviscerating interviewers” (her words!) – so, naturally, Dua was nervous (as she admitted at the beginning of their conversation). But what unfolded was anything but intimidating: their conversation was layered timely, complex – and funny. As today’s political landscape shifts faster than ever, they reflected on the future and the fragility of legacy. By the end, their connection was undeniable. “You can live at my house,” Margaret offered, with a smile.

“What unfolded was anything but intimidating: their conversation was layered timely, complex – and funny.”

After recording the episode, it felt like the perfect moment to bring our community together – to watch it side by side, share thoughts on the book, and consider one big question: what would they have asked Margaret? So, we took over the screening room at the RSA in London for an exclusive preview of the episode the night before it was released to the rest of the world. The lights dimmed, the screen came alive and, for a moment, it felt like the book and the podcast had come to life in front of us – with a seriously good spread of cinema snacks to compliment (thanks, Ocado!) But this night wasn’t just about seeing the episode early. It was about being part of something bigger: a community ignited by a story that continues to spark conversation and connection.

Thank you to every member of our Book Club community who joined us – it was so special meet so many new faces. And for those who couldn’t make it, don’t worry, this is just the beginning. Keep your eyes peeled... We might just be popping up in a cinema near you again soon.

Ready to discover Dua and Margaret’s conversation for yourself? Watch or listen to it here, where you’ll also find a whole host of fresh content to help you dive further into The Handmaid’s Tale.
