Backstage at London’s Roundhouse, Maro is preparing for her headline show. The Lisbon-born artist was first introduced to a global audience at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with her quietly devastating track Saudade, Saudade, and has since carved out a sound that feels both intimate and global.
As well as being a sought-after collaborator (working with artists like Jacob Collier and Odesza) Maro has evolved into a solo performer with a devoted global following. After releasing all-English album So Much Has Changed earlier this year, she’s currently on tour across Europe and North America, with her music resonating with audiences with its softness, precision and emotional depth.
Her live performances always feel personal. She’s known for layered harmonies and delicate instrumentation, but what I remember most is her presence, which feels like you’re watching a friend on stage. Maro creates a shared moment with the audience – as though she’s speaking directly to each person.
To dive further into her world – and the inspirations that shape it – we asked Maro to share what’s on her cultural radar right now. From a favourite neighbourhood restaurant near her home in Portugal to the creative ritual that connects her to her craft and the one musician she believes everyone should listen to, discover her full Culture List in our video below.
