Much gets said about building a tailored skin regime, yet we often forget that our scalps are an extension of that. So, it might be time to reassess your haircare. As we shift our light moisturisers to heavier creams when our complexions feel dry, and turn to vitamin-packed serums to boost skin health, it makes sense to apply the same approach to our hair.

Below, you’ll find a list of our current hair heroes: products that hydrate strands, detangle with ease and prioritise your scalp and style with minimal fuss. The kind of go-tos you can keep in your cabinet year-round for (most importantly) healthier hair that’s (also importantly) easier to style.

The Pre-Wash Mask

The Pre-Wash Mask

If your hair is in need of deep conditioning but you don’t have time to be jumping in and out of the shower to rinse off masks, might we suggest a pre-wash treatment? Slick this one from Typebea over dry hair for 20 minutes, then follow your usual wash routine for super-soft strands. (You can also leave it in longer if needed – the thick cream formula doesn’t drip, so you can slick or braid your hair back with it until you have time to rinse.)

The Scalp Serum For A Boost Of Health

The Scalp Serum For A Boost Of Health

Most overnight treatments leave your hair oily. Not this one from Davines – its brand-new Naturaltech Energizing Overnight Serum is designed to work while you sleep, when your scalp is most receptive to treatments (as it enters repair and regeneration mode). Apply a little of this biotech microalgae serum onto the scalp to encourage cell regeneration (because good hair starts with a good scalp), and onto the ends for added hydration. It sinks in by morning, so you can wake up, style and go.

The Slick-Back Essential

The Slick-Back Essential

A wax is possibly the most versatile product you can have in your haircare arsenal – especially this one from JVN, which comes in a handy stick applicator. Apply the plant-butter blend directly onto hair to keep it in place (without flaking), or dab onto an edge tool (we love this one from Pattern) to swirl those baby hairs into place. For shorter hair, simply rub a little product between your fingers and run through hair for instant texture.

The Clarifying Shampoo That Doesn’t Strip Your Hair

The Clarifying Shampoo That Doesn’t Strip Your Hair

We used to think all clarifying shampoos left your hair with that ‘squeaky’ feeling. Turns out, we just hadn’t tried Cécred’s. Its Detoxifying Shampoo is a gentle scrub infused with its signature PhytoFerment (botanical-powered) blend to remove oil and product build-up in one application – without stripping hair of its natural moisture. Seriously: once you’ve rinsed, your hair feels as soft as if you’d just used conditioner.

The Daily Dose Of Conditioner

The Daily Dose Of Conditioner

To hydrate, detangle and prep hair for styling, there’s nothing like a good daily conditioner – and Dizziak has long been our go-to. Its formula is paraben, silicone and sulphate-free, with added babassu, castor and argan oils to bring slip to the coarsest of textures. But note: this can be used across all hair types, as often as needed (those with finer strands should just avoid applying to the roots).

The Multitasking Hair Protectant

The Multitasking Hair Protectant

Unove’s products blend science with natural ingredients, for innovative haircare that just makes sense. Take this Detangling Heat Protectant: a leave-in conditioning spray that’s clinically proven to make hair 35% easier to detangle, while also protecting it from heat damage up to 235°C (455°F). Spritz onto wet or dry hair, comb through as needed and style without worrying about the impact of heat.

The Hair Gel To Keep Everything In Place

The Hair Gel To Keep Everything In Place

Don’t be fooled by this lightweight gel – the hold is strong. Also don’t be put off that it’s designed for curly hair, as it works across all types to scoop strands up into ponytails, keep short lengths in spikes or, yes, form the perfect curl cast. Apply to wet hair and let it dry completely before breaking said cast with a few quick scrunches for long-lasting hold with a surprisingly soft finish.

The Oil To Smooth Down Your Ends

The Oil To Smooth Down Your Ends

A few drops of this beautifully guava-scented oil from Ceremonia will help to gently break the aforementioned curl cast, allow fingers to comb through hair with ease and seal the appearance of split ends. Plus, a tiny amount (that’s all you need) run over the full length of your hair will add instant glossy shine. It’s the finishing touch you’ve been looking for.
