For the inaugural Service95 Dinner Service, art was always going to be at the heart of the evening. The first edition of our supper club series was hosted at Crispin at Studio Voltaire, the restaurant next door to South London's beloved non-profit gallery. So, fittingly, we collaborated with artist Lucy Mahon to create a bespoke print for the evening, alongside hand-designed menus, illustrated conversation cards and live drawing to capture the room’s energy as it unfolded.
Lucy’s work finds romance and whimsy in the overlooked moments of everyday life. She transforms found objects, fragments of text and vintage fabrics into pieces that sit easily within the home – old-school references woven with quotes, childhood doodles given new life and her mother’s handwriting preserved across canvas and cloth.
For our latest edition of The Way I Work, we spent the day at her East London studio, stepping into her creative world to discover her path from sketching people’s houses on the side to becoming a full-time artist. “Success for me is feeling secure,” she tells us, “and being able to think, ‘What a privilege to do something I enjoy on a daily basis.’”
