New Horizons: 5 Meditation Tools That Help Me Relax

I’ve long been fascinated by the power of psychedelics – both to expand and heal our minds. In this issue, Laura Potter reports on Australia’s recent move to become the first country to classify psychedelics as medicine, meaning specialist approved psychiatrists are now legally allowed to prescribe them to treat certain conditions. It’s a fascinating piece that asks: could psychedelic-assisted treatment help to solve the global mental health crisis? Elsewhere in this issue, we discover a new tarot-style oracle deck by Bat For Lashes, and experience the healing powers of relaxation in Japan’s traditional ryokan inns. On the subject of healing and mind expansion, I regularly turn to meditation to help me unwind – here are five tools I use to aid my practice:

  1. Insight Timer – my go-to app for guided meditations
  2. Music For Psychedelic Therapy, Jon Hopkins – to soundtrack my practice
  3. Bloom: 10 Worlds by Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers – a beautiful mindfulness app that allows you to create music and artistic patterns at the touch of the screen
  4. Anatomē Essential Oils – the most delicious, calming scents
  5. A yoga bolster pillow – ... and, relax
