Life Lessons From 100-Year-Olds – Who Better To Ask?

Dr Gladys on her 100th birthday

When it comes to seeking the ultimate life advice, there is perhaps nobody better to ask than those who’ve lived it to the fullest – and longest. Which is why, for Service95’s 100th issue (where has the time gone?!), we’ve handed over the mic to eight very special people, all aged 100 or more, to tell their stories and share their wisdom.

Across eight interviews, Violet, Jack, Shirley, Lauretta, Dr Gladys, Eugenio, Elda and Renata tell us everything from life-changing moments to the greatest lessons they’ve learned – along with the places, music, books, films and signature tipples that continue to bring them joy. And, as you’ll discover, 100 years is enough to fit several lifetimes into one. Between them, they’ve crossed continents, chased obsessions, weathered loss and met life’s storms head-on – emerging with humour, perspective and joy intact – in ways that are deeply inspiring.

These are stories shaped by curiosity, resilience and a refusal to stop living fully. Expect moments that move you, and more than a few that make you smile. Over to them...

Meet Violet, 100: “If You Can’t Think Bright, Don’t Think Miserable”

Meet Jack, 100: “I’m The Oldest Judo Instructor In The World!”
