Service95 Recommends is the home of the books we love and our contributors’ reviews. Did Ye Hear Mammy Died? by Séamas O’Reilly follows one argumentative family in 1990s Ireland, in rural Derry.

What Patrick Radden Keefe Says: “One thing I wanted to capture in Say Nothing is the way in which, at the darkest times, people in Northern Ireland used humour to cope. This is a very funny memoir of a family of 11 kids growing up with a single father in Derry after losing their mother.”

What They Say: “Tender, sad and side-splittingly funny, this is the unforgettable story of how a boy with 10 siblings and no mother grew into a man. It’s a love letter to Northern Ireland and all the children, dogs, priests and struggling parents that live there. I adored it” — Annie MacMan
