I was recently lucky enough to experience the real Austin, Texas while performing at the Austin City Limits Festival. Apart from sharing my love-it-or-hate-it Diet Coke recipe, which gained much more attention than I expected (sorry to anyone who added too many pickled jalapeños!), I also made sure to visit all the city’s top spots.
From barbecue joints to honky-tonks, here are my top recommendations if you ever find yourself in the heart of Texas...
1. La Barbecue – For an authentic Texan barbecue, this place is a must-visit.
2. Broken Spoke – One of the best dance halls I’ve ever been to. I danced the night away here.
3. Barton Springs – A protected natural pool where we swam, laughed and sunbathed for an afternoon.
4. Ski Shores Cafe – A riverside café along the Colorado River, with the best spicy margaritas.
5. Donn’s Depot – A classic honky-tonk with great music and an even better crowd.
