Dan Levy’s Favourite Eats In LA, Including (& We Quote) “The Greatest Pancakes On The Planet”

When you think of Dan Levy – actor, filmmaker, person we generally just want to be friends with – you probably think of Schitt’s Creek, the near-perfect comedy series he created with his father, Eugene. He played the razor-sharp David Rose in a way no one else could, praised in particular for a representation of pansexuality that was all heart and no gimmicks. It swept the Emmys and catapulted Dan into roles in Sex Education, Good Grief and the upcoming family crime caper Big Mistakes, where he’ll star opposite Rachel Sennott – a pairing we’re on the edge of our seats to see.

As Dua’s guest on the At Your Service podcast, Dan told Dua that he’s more concerned with following his interests these days than endlessly pursuing bigger and shinier roles. That’s what led him to host his own HBO Max reality series The Big Brunch, a wholesome cooking competition that shows when it comes to food, Dan knows what he’s doing.

But what does he choose to eat when he’s off the clock? Dua asked him for the four restaurants everyone should track down when they’re in LA (he splits his time between there and Toronto) and every one’s a banger.

For Perfect Pancakes: Little Dom’s

“Little Dom’s in Los Feliz does these blueberry ricotta pancakes which are the greatest pancakes on the planet,” says Dan. A neighbourhood Italian punching well above its weight, it’s worth paying a visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner, then stopping by the deli for a jar of homemade sauce on your way out.

For Veggie Thai: xBulan

“I often order from this place; they do a vegan buffalo wing that is extraordinary,” says Dan. In this tiny Silver Lake establishment across from Erewhon, you’ll find flavour-packed plates of curry, pad thai and tom yum soup that are total crowd-pleasers.

For Experiential Dining: Pizzeria Sei

“This is a pizza place that I haven’t actually tried yet, but I really want to,” says Dan. “It’s supposed to be excellent, and pizza’s my favourite food – I have a child’s palette.” Featured in the Michelin Guide and ranked 33 on the World’s Top 50 Pizzerias list, it’s safe to say this Japan-meets-Italy style tasting menu will not disappoint.

For Really Good Street Food: Tacos y Birria La Unica

“This is a taco truck that serves mind-blowing tacos,” says Dan. “When we wrapped The Big Brunch I had the truck come and everyone on set had tacos. They are extraordinary.” Follow the truck on Instagram to keep track of its whereabouts when you’re in town.
